‍I subscribe to a ton of book blogs. Everything from publishers listing new releases to reviewers to hot deals for physical and digital books. My favorite will always be the saclibrary.org newsletter but each one holds a dear place in my heart. I remember flagging an email shortly after my birthday last year for Blood Over Bright Haven. Fast forward to early 2025, and all of a sudden, this book is popping up on all the blogs, the socials, and from the friend recommendations (Hi, Josh Silver!). But I still didn’t get around to it until late March.

‍My bad, because it’s already a top read of 2025. I know that’s a lot to say given we’re only 1/2 way through the year but anyone who knows me IRL has heard me recommend the book at least a dozen times. I may have reread it thrice. I definitely read it thrice. 

‍Anyway, ML Wang wrote it. She has a parrot and I think birds are cool AF - I want one but my husband keeps pointing out to me that birds are modern day miniature dinosaurs and I’m like yeah, we could call it TRex. It wouldn’t match our “pets get named after food” theme though…so I guess I’ll just have stick to my wild pet doves and to trying to lure crows into my yard.
